JSM & Associates, a growing company headquartered in Central Florida, is seeking qualified individuals to join our team in Denver! This is an advanced level position with varied responsibilities, including, but not limited to, the maintenance of the airport Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) at the Denver International Airport.

Controls System Technician – BHS

The Controls System Technician – BHS applies advanced technical knowledge to perform maintenance and operational tasks on an automated Baggage Handling System (BHS).
The successful candidate will possess all of the necessary skills associated with this position, along with knowledge and demonstration of the following:
• Capable of performing all of the duties assigned to the Entry Support Mechanic (ESM) and Machinery Maintenance Mechanic (MMM)
• Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) inspections, dismantling, repair and rebuilding of equipment
• Perform scheduled/unscheduled maintenance dismantling, repair and rebuilding of equipment
• Perform cleaning of all parts of the BHS, as well as all surrounding areas
• Capable of readily identifying the following:
- Unexpected system operation
- Implementing proper procedures
- Resolving operational issues including, but not limited to, Dieback, Grid Lock and Fallback procedures
• Able to troubleshoot, repair, replace, and rebuild complex electro-mechanical systems and conveyor components, including, but not limited to the following:
- Programmable Logic Controllers - Input and Output Modules
- Electrical Switches - Variable Frequency Drives
- 110V AC and 24V DC Controls Devices - Automatic Tag Readers
- Electrical Control Panels - 110V – 480V AC Components and Motors
- Motor Control Panels - Photoelectric Sensors
- Sync-Pulse Tachometers - Laser and RF Readers
- Linear Induction Motors - Servo-Drives
• Able to make minor repairs of connectors, wiring and fuses on-site, and clean and perform diagnostic routines of electrical and control system components; remove and replace plug-in type boards and components
• Inspect all BHS equipment for proper operation and performance, including but not limited to, conveyors, lifts, diverters and automatic tag readers
• Install, inspect, assess, maintain, repair and/or refurbish of all parts, components and/or assemblies within the BHS
• Capable of clearing and resetting mechanical, electrical, and controls faults and baggage jams; may physically move baggage during these failures
• Able to read and interpret manufacturers’ maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components
• Control Room operations, with the capability of fulfilling control room operator duties in the event of an unexpected situation where support is required or an unexpected absence occurs
• Provide on-site training and competency evaluations of Machinery Maintenance Mechanic (MMM) and Entry Support Mechanic (ESM)
• Collateral duties as required
This position requires the following qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in BHS Operations and Maintenance
• Obtain security clearance by undergoing a Ten (10) year Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)
• Possess a valid drivers’ license (with a clean driving record)
• Familiarity with the interrelationships of electro-mechanical devices
• Capable of using a personal computer to diagnose and correct PLC and operating system software problems
• Skilled to diagnose, adjust and/or reset improper function (belt tension/tracking, jam, etc.)
• Capable of working unsupervised
• Capable of working a scheduled shift (this is a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation)
• Fully proficient with, and capable of operating, mechanical hand tools, as well as associated tools used specifically on BHS systems
• Capable of using and understanding electrical test instruments
Physical requirements:
• Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day
• Frequently lifting/moving items that may range in weight up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds
